Dust Emission and Machine Resistance

Strict limit values apply to dust concentrations at the workplace (workplace limits) when machining fiber composites, such as GFRP and CFRP, as well as wood-based materials. Whereas machine tools usually provide an extraction system, hand-held devices tend to generate large quantities of dust. We conduct stationary and personal measurements to assess dust concentrations, and then help you to choose and adapt practical extraction solutions.

To evaluate the resistance of machines and components to abrasive or electrically-conductive dust particles, such as CFRP or carbon fibers, Fraunhofer has developed a rapid testing method that maps year-long dust concentrations in a production facility in just one day. This enables conclusions to be drawn rapidly about resistance, sealing concepts and maintenance strategies, thus dispensing with the need for extensive field tests.
