Process and feasibility studies

What you need:
You are searching for innovation suggestions and ways of optimizing your production process.

 

How we can help:
In workshops on your company premises, two experts from Fraunhofer IPA identify your needs. They pinpoint and evaluate production techniques worthy of a method study. The feasibility study includes all aspects of the production method under consideration, such as technologies, integration into production processes, costs and future viability.

 

Result:
You receive a report which specifies and evaluates the possible methods, describes their feasibility, and explains the appropriate action required. This is followed by further steps for concrete implementation measures.


Prototype development

What you need:
You are searching for the first practical implementation of predevelopments or innovative concepts.

 

How we can help:
Together with your company, experts from Fraunhofer IPA define the start, goal and requirements of the prototype. The prototype is developed, constructed and tested to assess whether it meets requirements or if further development is needed. This work can be conducted in the Fraunhofer IPA laboratory or on your company premises.

 

Result:
You receive a prototype, plus a report to interpret the tests. You benefit from the available infrastructure, such as testing equipment, as well as the wealth of expertise at Fraunhofer IPA.


Technology scouting

What you need:
You want to recognize technology trends at an early stage. You need a collection and initial assessment of possible solutions. Compared to method studies, the research conducted is more extensive and more open as far as specific technical applications are concerned.

Two experts from Fraunhofer IPA come to your company. Together, we work out what you need and agree on search areas. Through research, interviews with experts, and by monitoring trade fairs, we identify new production concepts and processes worthy of consideration. We gather ideas and compare them with requirements.

You receive a report on the availability, implementability and perspectives of innovative technologies. Technology scouting can help your company to implement a new technology faster. This cuts process implementation costs and gives you a faster ROI.


Testing methods & process development

What you need:
You want neutral laboratory analyses which conform to norms, or more extensive and specific testing methods and techniques.

 

How we can help:
Among other things, cleanliness experts offer to analyze and optimize production areas which are relevant to cleanliness (with a focus on particulate, chemical and biological contamination), develop entire cleanliness concepts for the production process and logistics, as well as fully plan and equip laboratories. Depending on the assignment, we’ll gladly provide on-site advice and support, or use our modern, highly-clean and fully-equipped cleanrooms (up to ISO Class 1) and laboratories.

 

Result:
Tailored to requirements, we conduct neutral and norm-conform particulate cleanliness analyses on your components, prepare customized cleanliness inspection procedures, perform cause research and damage analyses, or hold training courses for inspection staff.


Production planning & production optimization

What you need:
You are faced with the following problems: what degree of cleanliness is needed to achieve the desired or required product quality? What steps are necessary to attain these cleanliness goals?

 

How we can help:
Cleanliness experts help you to plan clean manufacturing environments, design production systems or components (cleanliness-suitable equipment design), optimize existing production facilities or equipment, or instruct production workers on how to conduct themselves in cleanrooms, or as far as the aspect of cleanliness is concerned.

 

Result:
You receive individual and specific advice on targeted investments and measures. In this way, you avoid high, unnecessary costs and do not implement unsuitable materials, methods, etc.


Analysis of potential

What you need:
You are determined to improve processes or introduce new production methods. Opportunities need to be pinpointed and evaluated. Examples include improved productivity through automation, or the implementation of digitization concepts.

 

How we can help:
We take a close look at your manufacturing environment, determine technologies, analyze implementation potential and weigh up costs and benefits. Aspects such as the capacity to integrate technologies and their future viability are also considered.

 

Result:
You receive an analysis report containing information about technologies, implementability and the anticipated potential. The report also includes additional information, such as lists of stations, usability assessments, possible quick wins, complexity, risks and a cost estimate for investment and operation.


Cooperation laboratory

What you need:
You want to innovate and are looking for a partner to collaborate with you on long-term development work. You want the market and your staff to see you as an innovation driver.

 

How we can help:
At the start of the cooperation, we mutually define the project. We begin working on some aspects of the project straightaway, and on others as the cooperation progresses. A steering committee of representatives from your company and Fraunhofer IPA monitors the progress and financial situation of the project. It also determines any action to be taken or new projects. The cooperation lasts for 3-5 years and has a fixed annual investment volume.

 

Result:
The cooperation laboratory benefits from close collaboration in well-coordinated project teams consisting of experts from Fraunhofer IPA and your workers. Industrie 4.0 projects: assessment, implementation, processes, quality

What you need:
You would like to implement value-adding digitization concepts. Alternatively, you want to use digital networking to cut costs associated with warehousing, production, logistics, organization, quality and maintenance.

 

How we can help:
We offer four project formats to suit your state of digitization. An assessment (1) aims at determining your company’s current digitization status to identify areas with potential. An introductory project (2) comprises kick-off workshops, the development of applications, the selection of projects according to costs and benefits, as well as communication within the company. For example, this includes upgrading existing automation technologies, concepts for connected and autonomous production processes, or the integration of sensor systems. In a project to optimize processes (3), the project teams carefully weigh up costs and benefits, define a roadmap for introducing the digitization measures and determine the roll-out procedure. A project concerned with the aspect of 4.0 (4) aims at achieving a reliable agile production system. Ways of dynamically determining critical influencing parameters are used to control the process chain via quality and tolerance models.

Certification / qualification

What you need:
You want to certify your products or, alternatively, want certification details from manufacturers so that you can evaluate their product information better and more transparently.

 

How we can help:
Cleanroom experts provide you with certification services that are unique throughout the world. As part of the certification process, you receive the internationally-recognized test seal for cleanroom suitability “Fraunhofer TESTED DEVICE®” and “CSM®”.

Our comprehensive services range from assessing devices and materials, through measuring particle emissions and outgassing levels, up to identifying potential for optimization, such as hygienic design.

 

Result:
Based on standardized test procedures, you receive an objective assessment from a neutral, trustworthy body about the cleanroom suitability and cleanliness suitability of devices and materials. The certificates inspire confidence and can help to communicate information more transparently.


Ultra-efficiency check

What you need:
You are searching for ways to harmonize efficiency and effectiveness.

 

How we can help:
In a check, we take a close look at your company and manufacturing environment to assess how efficiently and effectively you manufacture your products. We also evaluate your impact on the environment and how to resolve inevitable conflicting goals.

 

Result:
In the assessment, we point out potential regarding processes, production, and the factory. You receive an overview to use as a basis for identifying measures to improve effectiveness and efficiency. This enables you to subsequently plan and implement these in a targeted manner. You are also given a plan containing information about economic potential and priorities for further action.


Seminars, training programs and innovation days

What you need:
You would like to close gaps in your knowledge on certain topics or find out about new trends identified by research. Alternatively, as a specialist and/or manager, you are confronted with the general topic of technical cleanliness or are responsible for specifically planning and optimizing technical cleanliness.

 

How we can help:
Fraunhofer IPA provides the seminars (1) held by the Stuttgart Production Academy with expertise and staff support. In the seminars, participants gain a sound technical insight and are taught concrete transfer concepts and methodical guidelines. Certificates are awarded at the end of some seminars. However, on innovation days (2), experts from Fraunhofer IPA also come to customers. From general presentations and subsequent discussions, interested parties find out about current technology trends, strategic issues and concepts for solving optimization tasks. In close cooperation with VDA QMC, we offer training courses (3) to become a “Technical Cleanliness Inspector” or “Technical Cleanliness Planner”. If required, we also design training courses to address our customers’ specific technical cleanliness requirements (with reference to ISO 16232).

 

Result:
In addition to the specific training programs, participants also profit from networking, as well as from interdisciplinary concepts and the Fraunhofer IPA trend radar. They benefit from a highly-compact transfer of knowledge.

Participants of the training course “Technical Cleanliness Inspector” can design, conduct and document cleanliness analyses according to VDA 19.1.

Participants of the training course “Technical Cleanliness Planner” derive and evaluate measures to avoid recontamination based on cleanliness specifications.
