Additive manufacturing processes for ceramic materials

Ceramic materials are extremely versatile high-performance materials. Developing additive manufacturing processes for these materials opens up new application possibilities, particularly in cases where complex structures in small piece numbers are required.

Since molding ceramic materials is a highly complex process, manufacturing small piece numbers and complex geometries is a major hurdle. However, this is where the strengths of additive processes come into play. They form an excellent complement to conventional production methods.

At Fraunhofer IPA, additive processes are further developed and combined to produce ceramic green bodies with properties those fabricated using conventional methods.
