Characterizing batteries and supercapacitors

 

The performance of materials and electrodes can often only be analyzed effectively after their integration into cells and/or modules. Cells and modules can be designed and characterized in many ways at Fraunhofer IPA.

To closely analyze battery or supercapacitor cells, different characterization methods are applied depending on the production step concerned. To characterize the electrochemical properties of electrodes and prototype cells, the scientists test batteries and supercapacitors using standard methods of voltammetry, such as cyclical voltammetry CV), chronopotentiometry (CP) and electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
