Medical Engineering

Our areas of competence in medical engineering are divided into the following:

  • Orthopedics & Rehabilitation
  • Diagnostics, Intervention and Implants
  • Care & Assistance

The intelligent further development of interventional processes is crucial to the advance of medicine. In the areas of “computer-assisted surgery new implants and surgical instruments” and “intraoperative diagnostics”, medical engineering experts develop innovative solutions for efficient quality-assured medicine in a clinical environment.

An interdisciplinary team develops innovative technical solutions for orthopedic surgery and modern rehabilitation. Development tasks focus on the aspects of biomechanics, motion capture and control as well as simulation and testing methods. Supported by an international network, we work hand-in-hand with our customers to create solutions for improving mobility.

Fraunhofer IPA provides support throughout all development phases of new technical assistive systems – from the product idea to development of the prototype.
