AI agent for energy management

© Fraunhofer IPA

Whether you are an energy consultant, software provider or industrial company: With AI agents, you can increase your efficiency, create transparency and minimize energy requirements as well as time and costs.

Energy-intensive companies in Germany must introduce a certified energy management system according to ISO 50001 or EMAS, otherwise they may face fines under the Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG). At the same time, the requirements are increasing due to EU regulations and new reporting obligations from an annual consumption of 2.5 GWh. This is where solutions with AI agents come into play! These can automate central tasks in energy management - from data import and performance monitoring to auditable reporting - and thus significantly reduce personnel costs, certification costs and compliance risks.

Value proposition

Our AI agent-based energy management solution supports energy consultants and industrial users in the rapid and structured implementation and operation of a digital, transparent energy management system. Using state-of-the-art AI methods (including LLMs, pattern recognition, agent logic), we enable:

  • Time savings during audits thanks to automated reports and evidence
  • Reduction of energy consumption through data-driven anomaly detection
  • Transparency on consumption, emissions and savings potential through individual dashboards and reports

Investment and scope of services

We offer our services individually tailored from 45,000 euros. The development of AI-based energy management systems is eligible for funding under current programs (e.g. BAFA, KfW: up to 45% subsidy possible). We will be happy to assist you with the application process. Our offer is divided into four project phases and covers all relevant functions for a modern energy management system (EMS):

  • Workshop: Analysis and conception
    • Recording the energy flows, meter structure and data landscape
    • Target definitions (ISO 50001, CO2 reduction, costs, transparency, forecast, etc.)
    • Development of a technology roadmap including integration strategy
  • PoC development (MVP)
    • Development of a prototype with connection to IoT gateways, ERP, cloud, etc.
    • Selection and training of AI models for data analysis and anomaly detection
    • Creation of a dashboard and automated reports
  • Pilot roll-out
    • Roll-out to selected locations or systems
    • Training for users (e.g. energy managers, controllers)

Optional additional services

We also offer a range of optional additional services to ensure the long-term success and efficiency of your energy management system. Go-live and support:

  • Complete commissioning
  • Feedback round and optimization of the agent logic
  • Handover to IT, error analysis, support
  • Optional operational support: maintenance, updates, integration of additional modules

Reduce analysis and reporting effort with your own AI agent for energy management – we support you from the idea to the go-live!
