Humanoid Capabilities Navigator
The Humanoid Capabilities Navigator, developed by Fraunhofer IPA, is a practical assessment model for humanoid robots. It classifies robots and applications based on five maturity levels and four key capability areas: mobility, manipulation, cognition, and safety & security. This model enables transparent, manufacturer-independent comparisons and helps companies identify the right robot for industrial and logistics tasks such as truck loading, order picking, or machine operation. The Capabilities Navigator highlights development needs and supports targeted investment and research decisions.
Developed at the institute’s site in Heilbronn (Fraunhofer HNFIZ), the model is part of a series of publications providing companies with reliable resources to realistically assess the technical and economic suitability of humanoid robots. Especially in times of skilled labor shortages and rapid AI advancements, the Humanoid Capabilities Navigator is a valuable tool for the future of industrial automation.
