A cost-effective and multifunctional filler for paints and coatings could be obtained from chicken feathers in the future: keratin. Researchers at two Fraunhofer Institutes have achieved promising results with this protein.

Robots that can learn and adapt require not only data, AI tools, and algorithms but also direct communication with their users. Jens Kober would like to improve this interaction and as the new head of a research team at Fraunhofer IPA, he is focusing in particular on construction robotics.

To deploy humanoid robots in industrial applications, they must meet application-relevant criteria. Fraunhofer IPA has developed a benchmark for this purpose. This allows manufacturers and end users to have humanoid robots analyzied by an independent third party for energy efficiency, cleanroom compatibility, data security, and more.

Based on successful battery research, Fraunhofer IPA and Sugino are now expanding their partnership. Since January 2026, the collaboration has also included joint research on cosmetics production, formulation development, and dispersion technology. With this move, the partners are strategically expanding their cooperation into a new, highly innovative market.

Together with the management consultancy P3, Fraunhofer IPA has investigated how component manufacturers could benefit from producing hardware components for humanoid robots. The results are available free of charge in the white paper “The Humanoid Hardware Value Chain: Can the European Manufacturing Industry Capitalize on the Humanoid Momentum?”
