How can workflows and energy efficiency be improved and operational costs reduced? Companies in the process industry extract and transport raw materials, process them by physical and/or chemical means to manufacture semi-finished goods or higher quality end-products. The overall production process or parts of it are characterised by flowing materials or media.
In its business unit “Process Industry”, Fraunhofer IPA bundles skills from nine different departments. Services focus primarily on the chemical, pharmaceutical and steel industries. The unit’s expertise covers areas such as e. g. surface engineering, generative manufacturing, measuring and testing technology, liquid and solid handling and cleanroom technology.
Since Industrie 4.0 is gaining importance in the process industry as a concept to make digitally-controlled production processes more flexible in the long term, Fraunhofer IPA develops self-organising production structures that interact with one another.
The experts from the business unit “Process Industry” assist companies with continuous production processes and develop solutions to meet specific requirements along the entire value chain, from planning through engineering and validation right up to quality assurance.
